Drabble: Initiation

Blayde scratched the back of his neck absently as he read over the passage for the third time. There was something not quite right about the way the words played out and he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.He glanced at the clock above the computer monitor. His deadline was less than two hours away and his most recent article was definitely not anywhere near ready for the editor’s desk.He leaned back in his chair, sighing deeply and stretched his arms behind his head.A few months ago he could have banged out three articles in the time it took him to write even just this one. When he had first gotten his job with the Courier, he was stoked. He was always willing to pick up extra work, always had his work completed early and his superiors were always impressed with everything he turned in.Why things had changed, he didn’t know.He had always loved journalism; it was his dream. He worked through college, gotten degrees, and survived academia for this job.A few clicks brought up a media player with some soothing music.
